IgM class antitreponemal antibody in treated and untreated syphilis.

چکیده
It is a particular advantage of the indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) method that antibodies of different immunoglobulin classes may be separately detected and measured by the use of monospecific antiglobulin conjugates. Matuhasi, Mizuoka, and Usui (1966), Kiraly, Bachhausz, Jobbagy, Lajos, and Kovats (1968), Julian, Logan, and Norins (1969), and Atwood and Miller (1969) studied antibodies in syphilis using IFA methods, and are in general agreement that while reactivity in fluorescent treponemal antibody (FTA) tests is due mainly to IgG class antitreponemal antibody, antibodies of IgM and IgA classes also contribute. IgM class antitreponemal antibody, in particular, was present in nearly all sera from cases of early syphilis examined by these workers, but often absent or present only in small amounts in sera obtained later in the disease. The purpose of the present study was to define more precisely the clinical significance of IgM class antibody to Treponema pallidum. 1,100 sera from patients with syphilis (both treated and untreated) were examined by the fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) test for IgG class and IgM class anti-T. pallidum antibody. The observations permit conclusions about the clinical circumstances in which IgM class antibody detectable by FTA-ABS may be expected.

Treponema pallidum specific IgM haemagglutination test for serodiagnosis of syphilis.
The Treponema pallidum specific IgM haemagglutination (TP-IgM-HA) test uses erythrocytes sensitised with antiserum to human IgM to separate IgM from IgG in serum. Specific antitreponemal IgM captured in this way is detected by adding a second reagent comprising erythrocytes sensitised with T pallidum antigen. Eighty two serum samples from 82 patients with untreated syphilis, 521 samples from 73...

A new IgM capture enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was compared with the 19S(IgM) fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (19S(IgM)FTA-ABS) test for detecting IgM antibodies to treponemes. Serum samples from 180 people, 109 with various stages of untreated syphilis, 45 with treated syphilis, and 26 non-infected, were investigated. In all diagnostic groups of syphilis the reactivity ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Bio-Rad BioPlex 2200 syphilis multiplex flow immunoassay for the detection of IgM- and IgG-class antitreponemal antibodies.
The laboratory diagnosis of syphilis is based primarily upon serologic findings. Historically, serologic testing for syphilis has relied on assays such as rapid plasma reagin, fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption, Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TP-PA), and more recently, enzyme immunoassay (EIA). In this study, we evaluated the performance of a novel multiplex flow immunoassay...
متن کاملIntrathecal antitreponemal antibody synthesis determination using the INNO-LIA Syphilis Score.
BACKGROUND Laboratory detection of intrathecal synthesis of specific antitreponemal antibodies remains a challenge. Traditional syphilis serology is unable to provide a satisfactory result; therefore, several other diagnostic procedures were used to demonstrate central nervous system (CNS) involvement in this disease. The introduction of molecular methods makes today's laboratory testing easier...
متن کاملIgM-FTA test in syphilis in adults. Its relation to clinical findings.
IgM-FTA tests have been carried out on 209 sera from 169 patients with treated or untreated syphilis at various stages and on 128 sera from 109 patients, born in areas where yaws is or was prevalent, with treated or untreated latent treponemal disease. IgM anti-treponemal antibody was found in virtually all cases of untreated early or early latent syphilis but in only 23 per cent. of sera from ...
